SASS FLYING RULES

The Seattle Area Soaring Society uses this field through the support of the King County Parks And Recreation Department. Flying safely is absolutely critical to insure continued access to the field by all RC glider flyers. By obeying a few rules and using common sense and courtesy, everyone will achieve maximum enjoyment of their flying.

• AMA membership is required to fly at this field.

• Liability insurance is required and provided by AMA membership.

• This is a field for quiet flying of radio controlled (RC) gliders, and electric motor launched RC gliders. Free flight gliders, rubber powered models, and electrics are also welcome. Piston engine powered models are NOT allowed here. Piston powered RC models and high performance electric RC models may be flown at the RC field at Marymoor Park about 5 miles south of here.

• Proper frequency control is MANDATORY to prevent crashes caused by frequency conflicts. NEVER turn on your transmitter unless your AMA  card is the only one in the "flying" clip for your channel on the active frequency board. Know the other flyers using the same frequency. Coordinate carefully with them and respect their rights to equal "air" time.

• There is a frequency board at each end of the field. Only one of them should be in use even if there are flyers at both ends of the field.

• DO NOT fly over the soccer fields or parking lots when they are in use. Avoid flying over or near other people. Before landing, walk at least 150-200 feet towards the center of the field so that you do not have to make your landing approach low over the soccer fields, parking lots, the road, spectators, or other flyers.

• In order to best utilize the available space, launching equipment should be aligned north and south. To reduce the number of High starts and winches in order to help prevent crossed lines, it is best to share launching equipment when possible.

• Read and follow the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) Safety Code.

Thank You,

Seattle Area Soaring Society
