Becoming a SASS Member:
Yearly family membership (including dependents) is $30 ($20.after July 31st), which includes a subscription to the club newsletter . SASS is chartered by the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). Because of this, AMA membership is required in order to join SASS. Send check or money order along with name, address, phone number, AMA number, and radio channels used to the SASS Treasurer, 17410 232nd Ave NE Woodinville WA 98077-7412. If you have applied for AMA membership, but not yet received your membership card, mention this in your application for membership in SASS.
The club's flying activities are centered at an excellent site owned by King County: 60 Acres Park South in Redmond, Washington. This is a one-of-a-kind, multiple-use grass field well suited to R/C gliders. Gas powered models are not allowed. One of the primary objectives of the club is to protect this site from incompatible competing interests. 60 Acres Park is located in Redmond on the South side of NE 116th Street between Willows Road and the Woodinville-Redmond highway.
Other important objectives of SASS are to assist new glider pilots who want to get started in R/C soaring, and to provide thermal duration contests for the many pilots who like competition. Fun flies and other types of contests are also held each flying season.
SASS is chartered by the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). AMA membership is a prerequisite for membership in SASS. SASS yearly membership dues are thirty dollars. AMA dues are forty-eight dollars, which provides benefits including $2.5 Million liability insurance and a subscription to Model Aviation magazine. Memberships for both SASS and AMA expire on December 31st of each year. (AMA or equivalent insurance is required by all people flying R/C aircraft at 60-Acre Park)
