Pacific NW HLG Regional RESULTS!
Well, the HLG session in the Pacific NW came to a conclusion with a great weekend of HLG flying competition! The 2-day competition started with a great weather day on Saturday. Thermals were abundant with a west breeze blowing them up against the ridge to the east. By the end of day one, everyone was still out fun-flying their HLG's and it was only the setting sun and the call of the Red Hook Brewery that brought the kids in from playing! Sunday was a bit different. A south breeze and a thick cloud cover made for some difficult thermaling! Max times for Sunday were down dramatically from Saturday, but there was still enough lift to scratch out some good scores. Head-to-head competition was fierce, and by the end of the three fly-off rounds, only 81 points (out of 13,000) separated the two leaders. Ole Skotvold put in a great performance in his first HLG contest of the year, finishing well enough to go into the fly-off rounds, and ending up in 6th. Bruce Kimball turned in one of his best performances of the year, often spotting lift for the rest of the pack! he ended up in 3rd by the end of two days, narrowly beating out last years champion Jim Pearson by 26 points! Phil Pearson also put in a stellar performance, his best in several years, wining 4 rounds, and always flying in the top seated group. He went into the fly-offs only 46 points out of the lead, but wasn't able to catch Adam Weston, who carried his lead from day one to win it all, despite having to go to his 3rd back-up plane for all of day two's competition. The top 4 places were taken by Encores, Tim Johnson flew his scratch built, own-design Hitchiker, and Ole flew his trusted Tweener!
